I just read the book in 2 days and it was fantastic!
Im based in Umhlanga Durban and work in a holiday resort and meet many Zimbabwe people who holiday here every year- they are my favourite clients! I am so happy that Douglas parents are still in Zim – they sound like the most incredible people – what an interesting life they have had!
I think this book is going to be huge.
Cant wait to visit Zim again soon now that things are looking better – hopefully can pop into Drifters – I am dying to see it.
    All the best

Love the book. Could not put it down – one reading. What a story. So real, so personal, such strength, patriotism and stoicism. So close to my heart and easy to relate to. Hats off to the folks. My husband ready to pack his backpack, get on his bike, find Drifters and meet the folks. Congratulations x

This may be a silly question but looking for photos of Drifters, characters, parents etc. which your book says are to be found on your website – but cannot find.

I have just been home to SA on holiday and stumbled across your book. Lived in Zim for years when I was little and these (good) books always touch a nerve. Started it at 10pm one evening and was done by 1pm the next day. Apart from a few hours’ sleep I couldn’t put it down. Wonderfully written, very entertaining and it made me miss Zim terribly. Drifters sounds insane, and your father even more so.
    I hope it sells well.

found your book The Last Resort at a book store in SoHo NY. a signed copy . It was just by chance that I picked it out, but I really enjoyed reading it and I am recommending it to my friends. I hope your parents are still in good health. All the best.

    Dear Douglas,

I am an ex Rhodesian (left just before Mugabe came to power) and have just finished reading your book. It was recommended to me by a Zim friend of mine and I have to say that it is long time since I enjoyed reading a book so much. Great read!! You really are a fantastic writer and it was a nice change to read a book portraying what is happening in Zim right now and how the people (your parents) are managing to stay alive. I know your area very well, although I grew up on a farm in Selous, I was in the army for many years so the areas you mention in your book are familiar to me.

It was interesting reading about the diamonds because that find was and by law is still owned by friends of mine – Africa Consolidated Resources Plc.

It will give me great pleasure to tell all my friends to buy your book and I wish you all the success that you so richly deserve. I hope your parents are fairing well and they are as brave as the people who lived through the bush war, they are living through another war and they will win. God bless them and all Zimbabweans.

Very best wishes and great appreciation for a wonderful book!!

    Bing Beghin.
